I am honored to be President of INNS. It is a privilege to serve a Society with such a long history and illustrious achievements, led and built up in the past by some of the most distinguished scientists of our time.
INNS is the most important professional home for researchers and practitioners from all over the world who work in the areas of neural networks and natural intelligence, including neuroscience, brain science, connectionist cognitive science, brain-inspired computing, neuroinformatics, brain informatics, bioinformatics, artificial neural network systems (for applications in science, engineering, business, and other areas), and so on. New research topics are constantly emerging, including neurally and psychologically inspired robots, neural network models for social simulation and multi-agent systems, various types of hybrid systems, and so on.
We are continuing the development of INNS as truly international, interdisciplinary and inclusive society. The diversity, openness, and all-encompassing nature of INNS is reflected in our resolve to develop and support topical sections (SIGs) and regional chapters, especially in those fast developing regions of the world, and to foster close collaboration with other professional societies.
As a preeminent professional organization, INNS works in close collaboration with a number of other professional organizations, such as the European Neural Network Society (ENNS), the Japanese Neural Network Society (JNNS), the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, and the Asia-Pacific Neural Network Assembly (APNNA).
Our flagship journal, Neural Networks, publishes state-of-art work, with ever-broadening scope, in various areas of neural networks and natural intelligence.
Our flagship conference, IJCNN, International Joint Conference on Neural Networks, will continue to be the premier venue for researchers and practitioners in this broad field (organized in collaboration with IEEE CIS).
The society presents prestigious Awards annually to prominent researchers who made significant, ground-breaking contributions to the science and technology of our field, including the Hebb Award, the Helmholtz Award, and the Gabor Award. INNS also offers a recognition and progression scheme for its members, from student members, affiliate members, and regular members, to Senior Members and members of the College of Fellows.
Our goal to better understand the human brain/mind and to create more powerful brain/mind-inspired intelligent machines for addressing complex problems faced by 21st-century societies are both challenging and exciting. With our joint efforts, we can make a significant difference in our future, and in particular the future of science and technology that benefit the humankind. Please join INNS and be part of this important community.
